The Posit Science Brain Fitness program was introduced to the Terraces of Los Gatos in early 2006. 48 resident graduates later it is truly an amazing computer software program that greatly helps residents improve memory loss by improving the clarity of their hearing.
The Posit Science Brain Fitness Program takes a novel, non-invasive approach to improving cognitive function in adults. It engages the brain’s neuroplasticity—its natural ability to change. This enables the program to target the root causes of changes in brain function that occur with age, rather than teaching how to compensate for those changes.
As we grow older, our brains gradually lose speed, accuracy and recording strength for processing information from our senses. This results in a progressive loss of memory and other cognitive abilities. Our global team of scientists has designed the program to:
- Speed up brain function- In every exercise, the sounds and speech begin at a slower pace and gradually speed up, with the aim of re-teaching your brain to process information at high speeds.
- Improve accuracy- Our scientists have applied patented technology to algorithmically process the sounds and speech with the goal of helping the brain refines its accuracy.
- Strengthen recording- Several program elements are specifically designed to exercise the brain machinery that accounts for recording strength.
- The Posit Science program targets auditory processing (listening) because so much of the important information we take in each day comes through speech. Classes are 1 hour a day Monday - Friday for 8 weeks for a total of 40 hours (classes are held 4 times a year). Posit Science is again one of the many reasons you should be a resident of the Terraces of Los Gatos!

InSight is Posit Science’s program for the visual system of the brain. Visual processing is an especially important root of brain fitness because so many of our experiences and memories are defined by what we see. InSight improves the quality and quantity of the information your brain absorbs from your eyes (just as the Brain Fitness Program does with your ears).
Almost any adult can benefit from InSight, regardless of starting cognitive status. The five computer-based exercises continually adapt to individual performance so that every person trains at the right level for him or her.
Product Description
InSight features five engaging exercises. These exercises wrap the visual training tasks in game-like elements to make the exercises both effective and enjoyable. Several features help users understand and individualize their experience.
Benefits of InSight Training
The InSight exercises are carefully designed to improve the visual system in multiple ways—by speeding up visual processing, sharpening visual precision, enlarging useful field of view, expanding divided attention, and improving visual working memory.
Classes are 40 minutes a day Monday - Friday for 8 weeks for a total of 40 hours (classes are held 4 times a year). Family Virtual Visits: Connecting Seniors and Their Families Worldwide
See and talk to your loved ones while at the Terraces of Los Gatos from anywhere in the world for FREE! Moving to the Terraces can mean good changes in a resident's life. Distance and today's busy lifestyles can lead to fewer face-to-face visits from friends and family but now the Terraces are offering Family Virtual Visits (FVV) to provide live video visits for our residents, keeping them and their families linked across generations.
It's as easy as watching TV! Absolutely no computer skills are required on the part of the resident. Virtual Visits start and stop automatically. All the resident needs to do is sit in front of the FVV TV, and start talking like they're in the same room! It's just that easy and once again it's free to residents and their families!
For more information on Family Virtual Visits please call Nelson Rodrigues at 408-356-1006 ext. 107 or email him at nrodrigues@abhow.com.
Nintendo Wii: Enhancing the physical and mental health of our residents
The Nintendo Wii is an interactive game console that provides residents of all ages a different way of challenging their physical and mental health. The Nintendo Wii offers a variety of games that are beneficent to any physical limitations a resident may have. This program not only allows the resident to enhance their physical strength but also their memory and their ability to quick judgment.
We have created a TLG team, “Spitin’ Cats,” that competes with one of our other ABHOW communities.
The Nintendo Wii console is available to our residents and staff Monday-Friday at 4:00pm in the Glenn Rouse Assembly Hall (GRA). Please contact Nelson Rodrigues, Resident Services Director at 356-1006 x107 or email him at nrodrigues@abhow.com for more information on this program.
